Innovate by “Thinking Sideways”
Innovation spawns success, so why not implement a process that promotes “Thinking Sideways”
- Have a mission that matters
Work can be more than a job when it stands for something you care about. If you are driven to achieve more than a sale, if you want to make a difference, then you will continue to innovate to find a better way.
- Think big but start small
No matter how ambitious the plan, you have to roll up your sleeves and start somewhere. Never be overwhelmed by the size of a task – just pick a start point and begin.
- Strive for continual innovation, not instant perfection
Understand that where you start is seldom ever where you’ll finish, so be ready to adjust course, change direction and constantly evolve as you learn more.
- Look for ideas everywhere
Some of the best ideas are found in the most unusual of places, so keep your antenna up at all times for cool ideas. Expose yourself to new books, experiences and opportunities because that’s where you’ll find the good stuff.
- Share everything
The more you are willing to share what you know, the more likely people become to share what they know with you. If you want to go faster – share more. It’s that simple.
- Spark with imagination, fuel with data
Marketing is ultimately a test and measure activity. Once you implement an idea, you need to measure its impact and adjust, improve or abandon it accordingly. Don’t fall in love with an idea; fall in love with constantly implementing ideas until you find the one that works.
- Never fail to fail
It’s okay to fail as long as you learn from your mistakes and correct them fast. Many businesses fail plenty of times.
